What a proper installation actually involves

Buying the right air conditioner is only half of it. A unit that is undersized for the room will run flat out and never quite get there. One that is oversized will cool fast, switch off, and leave the air clammy because it never runs long enough to pull moisture out. Get the placement wrong and you will feel a draught every time you sit down.

So the first thing we do is look at the space, not the catalogue. Room size, ceiling height, how much sun it takes through the day, how many people use it, and where the outdoor unit can sensibly go. Then we recommend a system that suits it.

What changes the price

Nobody can give an honest installed price without seeing the job, and any quote given sight unseen tends to grow later. These are the things that genuinely move the number:

• Capacity. Measured in BTU, matched to the room. Bigger space, bigger unit, higher cost.
• How many rooms. One wall split is straightforward. A multi-split or ducted system serving several rooms is a bigger installation.
• Distance between the units. The further the indoor unit sits from the outdoor one, the more pipework, refrigerant and labour.
• What the wall is made of. Getting through brick is routine. Reinforced concrete or an unusually thick wall takes longer and adds to the job.
• Electrical work. An existing dedicated circuit keeps things simple. A new one adds to the job.
• Brand and model. Inverter models cost more to buy and less to run. Over the life of the unit that usually pays for itself.

Why accredited installation is worth it

The cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest outcome. Installations that go wrong usually go wrong in the same few ways: refrigerant lines not properly evacuated, so the system runs inefficiently from day one; drainage that runs the wrong way and eventually stains a ceiling; an outdoor unit sited where it recirculates its own hot air and works harder than it should.

Any of those will cost more over a few years than the difference between two quotes, and installation faults are exactly what manufacturers exclude from warranty cover. Our technicians are qualified and accredited on the systems they fit.
