Design and specification comes first

On a commercial job the most expensive mistakes are made before anything is installed. A system specified from floor area alone, without accounting for heat load from equipment, glazing, occupancy and the building's orientation, will either be undersized and run permanently flat out, or oversized and cycle badly while costing more than it needed to.

We do design and CAD work as a service in its own right, so the system is planned properly against the actual building rather than fitted around it afterwards. That is also what allows the installation to be coordinated with other trades instead of colliding with them.

Keeping it running

For a business, the installation is the beginning rather than the end. A system that fails in December takes your trading conditions with it, and commercial equipment runs far longer hours than a domestic unit, so it accumulates wear proportionally faster.

We service and maintain commercial systems alongside installing them, which includes the things that quietly degrade performance: filters and coils, condensate drainage, refrigerant pressures, electrical components and outdoor unit airflow. Catching a failing capacitor during a scheduled visit is a very different event from discovering it on the hottest trading day of the year.

What shapes a commercial quote

Commercial pricing genuinely cannot be estimated from a description, and any contractor quoting a building they have not walked is guessing. The variables that matter:

• Heat load, not floor area. Equipment, glazing, occupancy, orientation and insulation all feed the calculation. Two rooms of identical size can need very different capacity.
• System type. Multiple cassettes, a ducted installation, or a mix, depending on the layout and how the space is actually used.
• Structural work. How much drilling and cutting is needed, and what the building is made of.
• Access and hours. Work that has to happen after trading, or around an operating production line, takes longer than an empty site.
• Electrical capacity. Whether the existing supply and distribution board can carry the new load, or needs upgrading.
• Phasing. Whether the building can be done in one go or has to be staged floor by floor to keep trading.
